In the time of social distancing and staying put, something that has been fun is looking through old travel photos as well as virtually exploring new places.
When trying to figure out which of our past travels to write about first, I decided to go with one of our favorite hiking spots, Craggy Gardens outside of Asheville, NC.
With forests of enveloping, twisted trees, and blankets of wildflowers and berries, Craggy Gardens is like stepping into a storybook. While walking along the grass-lined trails, you expect fairies to start buzzing around you. It is inspiring, relaxing, and like a time warp into childhood.
It is my favorite hike outside of my favorite city. The last time we were there, and when these pictures were taken, was in early September last year. At that time, we were able to see a variety of wildflowers and greenery. But, the prime season for going on this trail is early-mid June when the vibrant rhododendrons are in bloom.
Ollie’s favorite part of the hike was when we got to Craggy Flats Bald, a grassy wonderland full of wildflowers.
Just down the road from the Craggy Garden Trail is the Craggy Pinnacle Trail. It is a short hike, less than a mile round trip. Just like the Craggy Garden Trail, there are plenty of wildflowers and twisting rhododendrons to spark your imagination. Though, I would say that the highlight of this hike is the pinnacle at the top that has 360° views of the gorgeous Blue Ridge. If it wasn’t for Ollie trying to play with every dog, we could have stayed up there all day :).
If you are hiking during these times, please check with state and local governments and Park Service rules prior.
