Don’t Think, Just Paint!

April 14, 2020

I have been painting since I could hold a paintbrush in my hand. One of my favorite paintings is this image above, which I painted when I was three years old.

Twenty-seven years later, I still love painting in that same style. What is that style exactly? I have no idea, but I like to access a part of myself that is uninterrupted by my thoughts; a pure stream of consciousness; a genuine representation of my feelings in a moment; a connection to my inner child. A vibrant kaleidoscope of color palettes and unconventional painting methods. Eating an apple? Why not use the crosssection instead of a paintbrush. Or painting outside? Use some leaves.

More recent painting. 2014.

It is incredibly therapeutic to step outside the box and just create. In a time where our thoughts are so burdened by the uncertain world we are living in, it is important to take a break and reset.

So if this sounds fun to you, I challenge you to grab some paint and a canvas, paper, a piece of wood, a wall, or whatever you like. And, don’t think, just paint!
